Sales follow-up

How long should you wait before a follow-up?

A practical cadence for sales, recruiting and collections follow-ups that gets replies without being pushy.

  1. Why spacing matters
  2. When to stop

Most follow-ups fail for one of two reasons: they go out too soon and feel pushy, or too late and the thread is already cold. A cadence of 3, 5 and 7 days after the first email works well for most sales and recruiting contexts.

Why spacing matters

Each bump should add a small amount of new information or a lower-friction ask, not just repeat the same request.

When to stop

The moment someone replies — even with “not now” — the sequence should stop. Never send a scheduled bump after a real reply.
